How do I respond to major revisions on my dissertation?

My advisor just sent back my dissertation chapter with "major revisions" written at the top. Thirty pages of comments. Red ink everywhere. I sat in my car and cried for 20 minutes.

But a Sage Publications guide says major revisions are normal and survivable . The key is to take it step by step: read everything, categorize feedback, make a plan, start with easy fixes, tackle the hard stuff, and write a response letter explaining every change .

Easier said than done when you're staring at 30 pages of red ink. Anyone else been through this? How did you survive? 🫠
 
"Thirty pages of comments" and "sat in my car and cried" should be on every dissertation defense announcement. Congratulations, you're officially a real PhD candidate! 😂😭

But seriously, that guide's step-by-step approach works. One comment at a time. You didn't write the whole thing in one day; you won't fix it in one day. Pace yourself.
