I was skeptical. I read the Reddit threads. I still fell for it because the salesperson was so convincing.

The Red Flags I Ignored:
  1. They asked for my university login. "So we can check your rubric." Nope. They wanted to know which Turnitin database you use.
  2. They promised a "native UK writer." The final product was clearly written by someone whose first language was neither English nor coherent.
  3. The plagiarism report was fake. It was a screenshot of a "0% similarity" from a made-up URL. When I ran it through my school's system? 38%. Direct copy from a 2019 thesis.
  4. Refund policy is a myth. They offered me 15% off my next order.
The Lesson: These companies are not in the business of educating you. They are in the business of extracting money from anxious students. If you absolutely must use help, use editing services (where you wrote the draft) or tutoring. Do not hand over login credentials.

I used to work for one of these companies. I got out because the guilt was destroying me. Let me tell you exactly how it works:

The "company" is usually 2-3 people running a website and hiring desperate freelancers on Fiverr for $10/page. The "UK writers" don't exist. The "PhD experts" are undergrads in developing countries who copy-paste from journals.

The sales team is trained to say ANYTHING to get your money. "We've helped 10,000 students at your university." "We have access to the Turnitin database." "Your writer has a PhD from Oxford." All lies.

When you ask for a refund, they string you along until the dispute window closes. Then they ghost.

The university login request? That's new and terrifying. They use YOUR access to download papers from your institution's database—papers they then plagiarize and sell to OTHER students. You become an unwitting accomplice.

Sam, I'm so sorry. These people are parasites. Thank you for warning others. 🐍
